Dear Gomde Sangha and supporters,
It has been nearly a year since the gates of Gomde California temporarily closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Our summer seminars were canceled, and Gomde needed to make the decision to maintain a strict retreat environment in order to protect the health and welfare of our sangha members. Still, it has been a year of wonderful development and growth on the land. Community members have engaged in long periods of practice, deepened their Dharma knowledge and experience, and carried out Dharma projects for the benefit of all.
You, our sangha members, have supported us with ongoing monthly donations and generous one-time offerings; and your care and love for Gomde California has been indispensable in sustaining the center during this year. We have applied your offerings with discernment and consideration.
This year, we launched our new website, constructed a mobile Tiny House for personal retreat use, made structural improvements to the Lama House, constructed a beautiful gate and entranceway to Gomde, cultivated two large and nourishing gardens to provide organic food for future programs, opened up portions of the land that were previously inaccessible, renovated the Gate House, planted fruit trees, built private meditation platforms by the river, and improved the quality of the River House.
We also pivoted to provide online programs with resident staff and clergy, and helped organize digital teachings with our khenpos and lamas at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling. Additionally, we organized a large Dzambhala puja with over 50 monks at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling on behalf of our sponsors and Sangha.
We sincerely pray that these efforts and activities directly support your realization of the heart of the Dharma—the unity of emptiness and compassion.
We thank our sangha for their practice, our sponsors for their care and generosity, our Board members for their guidance and support, our staff for their unceasing love, and our teachers for giving us what is most precious.
Sadly, this year ended with the passing into parinirvana of our incomparable teacher, Kyabje Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche. Incredibly, Rinpoche remained in meditative composure for one full week following his passing. Rinpoche’s kudung, his precious physical remains, arrived home at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery this past Sunday. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche, Mingyur Rinpoche, and Tsoknyi Rinpoche are leading the daily memorial pujas.
Although there have been many challenges this year, the teachings say that when we overcome obstacles, realization dawns naturally. We wish you all a very healthy and prosperous 2021. May your love and wisdom fully bloom.
